Portland City Council District 3 Candidate Sandeep Bali Condemns Harassment, Defamation & Hypocrisy by Fellow District 3 Candidate
Portland, Oregon — October 14, 2024 — Dr. Sandeep Bali, a pharmacist and a candidate for Portland City Council District 3, condemns the harassment and defamation by a fellow candidate and their spouse, which includes social media attacks and tampering with campaign materials. These actions represent a disturbing pattern of lawlessness and hypocrisy, with the alleged candidate positioning themselves as a defender of marginalized communities while actively targeting an immigrant, LGBTQ+ person of color like Dr. Bali.
“It’s always the far-left white progressives who claim to uplift marginalized communities but then turn around and try to silence people like me. The irony is blatant,” Dr. Bali said. “Their hypocrisy is exactly what’s wrong with progressive policies. They claim to protect the most vulnerable, yet their actions hurt the very people they say they support.”
Dr. Bali has faced misleading attacks on his campaign and character, alongside theft and vandalism of his campaign signs. These unethical tactics violate Oregon law and undermine the democratic process. Dr. Bali’s team has reported the incidents and is considering legal action to hold the responsible parties accountable.
When Angela Todd (@PDX.Real) shared that her campaign signs for Dr. Bali had been stolen and the replacement signs had been tampered with, the story went viral online with thousands of views, hundreds of comments, and @WTFPortland sharing Angela’s video on its pages.
According to Oregon law, stealing or tampering with campaign signs is considered a crime; it’s considered theft if taken, criminal mischief if damaged, trespassing if committed upon private property, and if motive can be proven, it could be considered a bias crime. Under Portland City Code, there are several instances upon which portable signs may be placed in the right-of-way if they meet certain standards, such as if the sign is entirely outside the roadway, the area of a sidewalk, and does not obstruct a continuous through pedestrian zone.
Brian Conley (@ConleyForPDX) and his spouse Eowyn Rieke (@EowynRieke) posted several messages and videos on their X accounts, including a video of the couple directly lying to Portland Police Officers about the incident, claiming that they did not trespass upon Angela Todd’s property while also admitting they visited her home on multiple occasions to put notes on her front door or move the signs in her yard.
“I am deeply disappointed by the actions of my fellow candidate and his spouse,” said Dr Bali, “but don’t vote for me because of my identity,” Dr. Bali continued. “Vote for me because I’m the only candidate offering practical solutions: ending urban camping, increasing public safety, revitalizing Portland, and boosting affordable housing. With my healthcare background and common-sense policies, I’m ready to fix what’s broken in Portland.”
Dr. Bali’s message is clear: Portland needs real change. He encourages voters to rank him in their Top 3 for District 3 election ballots and calls on all candidates to respect the integrity of the election process.
“To the silent majority standing up against this hypocrisy—I see you, and I appreciate your support. Let’s wake up Portland and make real positive changes.”
